Every 3 days a child is born with NF in Australia.
NF refers to a set of three complex, lifelong genetic conditions – NF1, NF2 and Schwannomatosis. Progressive and unpredictable, it causes tumours to form around nerve cells, under the surface of the skin and deep in the body.
These tumours can lead to physical differences, vision and hearing impairments, learning difficulties, chronic pain and scoliosis; and in 10 per cent of cases, tumours can become cancerous. The signs, symptoms, and management of each condition are different, as is the treatment for every individual.
As the only dedicated support service for people impacted by neurofibromatosis (NF) in Australia, the Children’s Tumour Foundation provide hope by:
- Advocating for change and working collaboratively to make NF a national priority
- Advancing research by investing in new technologies, studies and clinical trials
- Providing personalised, accessible support and resources to every person impacted; empowering this community with the knowledge, connections and support needed at every stage of their journey.
